Twinkling lights, community celebrations, small-town charm, and the warm spirit of the season make December one of the best times to explore our region. This year, we’re bringing the festivities together with a 12 Days of Christmas Advent Calendar—your guide to exciting events, dazzling light displays, and heart-warming holiday traditions across SE Sask.


Whether you’re sipping a seasonal latte from your favourite café, supporting local makers, or packing the family into the car for an evening of lights and laughter, there’s something for everyone this season.

  1. Carlyle Dickens Village Festival – December 5 & 6

Step straight into a storybook as Carlyle’s Main Street transforms into a Victorian-style holiday scene. Enjoy free horse-drawn carriage rides, costumed characters, carolers, live entertainment at Fezziwig’s Pub, children’s shows by Al Simmons, lighted parades, a Festival of Trees, Breakfast with Santa, trade shows, delicious food vendors, and cozy warm-up spots. Don’t miss the English Tea or the comedic musical Christmas at the Lake!




  1. CPKC Holiday Train – Estevan & Weyburn (December 19)

A glowing holiday tradition rolls through SE Sask once again! The CPKC Holiday Train brings live musical performances, Christmas lights, and a mission of generosity—collecting donations for local food banks at each stop. A must-see event for all ages.




  1. Go for a Sparkling Night Walk

Bundle up and wander your neighbourhood or local park to admire homegrown light displays. Sometimes the simplest moments are the most magical.


  1. Oxbow Christmas in the Valley Festival of Lights – Dec 4 to Jan 1

Bow Valley Park lights up the season with nightly displays set in a beautiful natural setting. The Grand Lighting Celebration on December 4 includes bonfires, hay rides, treats, games, caroling, and family activities. It’s a cozy, joyful way to welcome winter.




  1. Redvers Winterfest – December 13

This cheerful one-day celebration fills Redvers with festive fun: Santa photos, kids’ crafts, outdoor activities, a holiday parade, skating with the Senior Rockets, and more. Organized by a local non-profit, Winterfest thrives thanks to the heart and support of the community.




  1. Sip a Festive Drink at a Local Coffee Shop

From peppermint mochas to gingerbread lattes, SE Sask coffee shops are brewing up holiday spirit. Treat yourself to a festive drink and warm up between events.



  1. Weyburn Tourism River Park Sparkles – Dec 1 to Jan 4

Take a glowing tour through River Park Campground, where festive lights illuminate the trees after dusk. It’s a peaceful, magical place to sip a hot chocolate, snap photos, and enjoy the season at your own pace.




  1. Shop Local & Support Small Businesses

Find unique gifts at your favourite local boutiques and shops. Handmade items, artisan goods, holiday décor, and one-of-a-kind stocking stuffers make shopping local both meaningful and merry.



  1. Woodlawn Regional Park Festival of Lights – Dec 14 to Jan 4

Load up the vehicle and take a slow drive through Woodlawn Regional Park’s dazzling Festival of Lights in Estevan. Local organizations create stunning displays, and a special FM station plays Christmas music as you go—making it an unforgettable seasonal tradition.




  1. Enjoy a Seasonal Treat or Meal

Visit a local bakery or restaurant for a festive dessert or holiday-inspired dish. Nothing says Christmas like comfort food shared with loved ones.


  1. Christmas in the Park – Estevan (December 14)

Celebrate an evening of free family fun at Doug Third Hall! Enjoy hotdogs and hot chocolate, Santa photos, crafts, sleigh rides, road hockey with the Estevan Bruins, a cozy fire, fireworks, and the grand opening of the Festival of Lights.




  1. Try a New Winter Activity

Skating, snowshoeing, crafting, baking, or even an evening board game marathon—this is the season to make new traditions.
